How to become a Christian by going down the Roman Road

The Roman Road is a group of Bible verses from the book of Romans in the New Testament. "Walking" down this road you help you understand how to become a Christian.

First Stop: The following three verses tell us that all mankind has sinned --that includes me.

  • Romans 3:10  "As it is written: 'There is none righteous, no, not one'"

  • Romans 3:23 "...for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,"

  • Romans 5:12 "Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned"

Second Stop: Tells us what we deserve (wages) for sin. Sin must be punished.

  • Romans 6:23a "For the wages of sin is death..."

Third Stop: The last half of the previous verse tells us about a gift that God has provided. This gift is not earned but we must reach out and receive it.

  • Romans 6:23b "...but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."

Fourth Stop: This stop tells us that Christ, motivated by love, took the punishment that we deserve for the sin that we committed.

  • Romans 5:8 "But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us."

Fifth Stop: This stop tells how to receive the salvation from our sin by confessing and believing. There is nothing that we can do to deserve it.

  • Romans 10:9 "...If you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Jesus from the dead, you shall be saved."

Final Stop: Assures us that if we call upon the name of the Lord (Jesus Christ) we will be saved.

  • Romans 10:13 "Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved!"
